Ultimately I'm a curmudgeon and want minigames to go to whatever special hell jumping puzzles were banished to.Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08820775571097012093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-43893432469397165252010-02-08T08:00:31.373-08:002010-02-08T08:00:31.373-08:00What if they went Left for Dead style with an A.I....What if they went Left for Dead style with an A.I. director (of sorts) that can tell when you've mastered a mini game, and skip it from there on, or ramp up the difficulty? Or give a different game?

But I agree with the bypassing altogether, especially at a point late in the game.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12108008633665360780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-35653069778223776232010-02-05T19:55:29.059-08:002010-02-05T19:55:29.059-08:00I think the fatal flaw of minigames is that, no ma...I think the fatal flaw of minigames is that, no matter how fun or well-designed they are, by the 3000th time you have to play Pac-Man to pick a lock you're going to be annoyed.

Plus in RPGs they don't fit the game concept. Why did I invest points in lockpick if I have to unlock the damn thing manually? Isn't my character supposed to be doing this?

If they're going to insist on minigames, there has to be a way to bypass them. You can play the game OR if your lockpick skill is over 50, it just unlocks. That's less irritating.

Otherwise they're just speed bumps in the game's pacing, like the ones that are pissing me off in Mass Effect 2. They're incredibly basic, it's not like there's any actual risk of failing, so all it's doing is wasting my time. Again and again and again and again.Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08820775571097012093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-3899106444714668772010-01-21T07:59:31.337-08:002010-01-21T07:59:31.337-08:00Heavy Rain also seems to take some risks and it ma...Heavy Rain also seems to take some risks and it makes me wish i had a ps3 to play it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12108008633665360780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-56034038695145946862009-12-24T20:13:54.250-08:002009-12-24T20:13:54.250-08:00My point is that the AVNs have existed since the 8...My point is that the AVNs have existed since the 80s, are only available on a premium cable channel and only exist to honor people in the porn industry. Porn isn't an industry struggling for acceptance or legitimacy and neither are video games. The reason the Spike awards are offensive and stupid is that they're just a really long commercial caged as something that's supposed to respect games, developers, and people who play games. In reality, it just serves DORITOS, MOUNTAIN DEW and whoever has a Blockbuster title they want to flash trailers for. They spectacle and slapstick is not even an iota as offensive as the fact that they had a category called "Best Independent Game Fueld by Dew."Alfiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17033148528592404465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-90379428261099715232009-12-23T21:22:53.957-08:002009-12-23T21:22:53.957-08:00That's my point -- if everyone knows exactly w...That's my point -- if everyone knows exactly what the porn industry is about, why bother making an awards show that isn't anything but stage orgies? I think they are trying to make porn be considered as not such a shameful thing to do (or watch). Why can't the gaming industry do the same?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12108008633665360780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-33228218613412961692009-12-23T21:14:24.486-08:002009-12-23T21:14:24.486-08:00ah yes, the porn industry. ever struggling for the...ah yes, the porn industry. ever struggling for the legitimacy and recognition of the everyday working stiff who just wants to sit down with his kids and watch some wholesome anal fisting after a hard day of work.
but that's only one of the many reasons your comparison fizzles.Alfiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17033148528592404465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721142849121602566.post-45410955141937753102009-12-23T21:07:34.233-08:002009-12-23T21:07:34.233-08:00"The second I realized that shooting a terror..."The second I realized that shooting a terrorist caused the slow moving task through the airport to start all over again, the emotional power the game had over me disappeared."

This is basically how I feel.
